Pinsetter (short film), Summer 2024
A hilariously nostalgic slice of life story from the 90s, Pinsetter follows Riley, an awkward 13-year-old who is tired of setting pins at her family's bowling alley. When her school crush gets hired to work alongside her, absolutely nothing happens. Just kidding! What a terrible idea for a film!
Pinsetter treads the waters of first romances, dealing with gross boys, and the realization that trying new things doesn't have to be awful. This is a queer film without the internalized homophobia that was so present in rural Texas in the 90s (where the film takes place); a chance to reimagine what could have been for so many young people. Instead of drowning in learned self-hate our protagonist gets to focus on the anxiety every young person deserves to struggle with - not knowing if you are your crush's crush. |
Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker and former professional pinsetter Rebecca Marquardt, this film will be made with a talented skeleton crew to minimize budget and maximize quality. Pinsetter made the top 8 short comedy screenplays at Slamdance and was in the top 20 short comedies on Coverfly. To help get this film off the ground and join the team, reach out to us.
